NEHU Channel racing update 15/2/2023

NEHU CHANNEL RACING UPDATE
All NEHU members wishing to race the channel programme in 2023. ARRAS   27th May
ROYE  Q.C
10th June AUXERRE
24th June ROYE
8th July ARRAS  22nd July

All birds will be race marked on Wednesdays before appointed date of race to be flown This is due to birds having to be transported to Portsmouth for ferry crossing to Caen which is a longer crossing time wise compared to Calais also on arriving in France there  could be up  to 1 hours delay while French authorities carry out necessary checks. Once in France driving to race site will be a longer drive. Birds will be fed and watered whilst on route and on arrival at the race site birds will have plenty of rest being watered and fed ready for release on Saturday.

1. Members will need to email union office by Sunday midnight with their Partnership name, Entries ring numbers and sex of birds. As all birds and basket numbers have to processed in union office on spread sheets .  As some members may not be on email we would ask if members in their federation could help and assist who have not got email ,to make it happen we will all have help each other.

 2. All birds will be race marked at Sappers corner UNC headquarters where time slots will be given to federations these times must be adhered to ensure that your birds will be race marked . We will give further details once we know the outcome of CPH and £15 Levy fees paid into UNION ,  an example will be the federations closest to Sappers corner will be the first ones for Basketing and so on.

3. CPH NUMBER Must be sent to union office with notification confirming you will be racing the channel as soon as possible.

4. Loft visits by Vet must be done by 20th of May which you will receive signed document as proof from vet

5.  £15 Levy fee to cover costs of vet at marking station and shipping agent to be paid between 4th and 11th April.

6. Birdage costs for races from ARRAS and ROYE will be £2.75 per bird this is worked based on 2,000 birds entered to cover the expenses. in the event that there is under 2,000 birds it will have to be adjusted accordingly as all races must be self-supporting Birdage above 2,000 will hopefully see prize money been paid out on NEHU open result this will all be adjusted when we know the final figures. Figures above are based on current costings of Diesel, ferrys, tolls, corn, drivers wages.(hopefully nothing will go up)   AUXERE race price of birdage will be clarified once we know the outcome of members racing the channel .

7. In the event of a hold over there will be extra charges per bird to cover the additional costs of drivers expenses.

8.  Where federations are organising multiple pick ups bringing birds for marking at sappers corner they must also ensure they have enough members coming to basket and help race mark the birds.

9.For the first race we have set a maximum of 3,000 birds which will be decided by the number of members i.e. 200 members would be 15 birds per loft .This is all new to the NEHU that's why hopefully all birds can be processed in union office on the Monday and Tuesday we won't know what teething problems may occur.

Many discussion have taken place and with the help and effort of the members we can make it happen. We will try and keep the members informed with any updates.

Richard Wade  vice President.
